Mrs. Denise Tobin, Principal of Bishop Ireton, says Senior Samuel Paparo (Son of Captain Samuel and Mrs. Maureen Paparo of Annadale) is a Semifinalist in the 62nd National Merit Scholarship Program. Approximately 16,000 students nationwide have been named semifinalists, and they will compete for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $33 million. Students entered the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.  The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. Bishop Ireton is also pleased to recognize the 88 Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement (AP) Program exams, taken in May of 2015.

The College Board’s AP Program provides motivated and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college –level courses while still in high school, and to earn college credit, advance placement, or both for successful performance on the AP exams.  Last year Bishop Ireton High School had 242 students take 510 Advanced Placement exams in 17 subject areas.
