I think many of you will definitely want to hear this eclectic program of music by Duke Ellington, Dmitri Shostakovich, Gavin Greenaway and more! The Cathedral Brass, a Vienna, Va. based group, with the multi-talented Lance Vining, conductor, will present its spring concert called ‘’Heaven and Earth,” featuring the versatile vocal stylings of Danielle Talamantes, her pianist/arranger Henry Dehlinger and the Vienna Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir.

Ms. Talamantes, who hails from Vienna, performs not only at the Metropolitan Opera, but is currently in Southwestern Va. rehearsing for the title role in Opera Roanoke’s presentation of Carlisle Floyd’s “Susannah.” I heard Danielle sing in January at the Met when she played Frasquita in Bizet’s “Carmen.” That marvelous voice will be on full display in selections from her most recent album featuring Henry Dehlinger’s arrangements:  “Heaven and Earth—A Duke Ellington Songbook.”   Two of those songs, “Almighty God Has Those Angels” and “Heaven” will be performed with the VPC choir.  In addition to another small set of songs from the album, the concert will feature original arrangements for Cathedral Brass and Soprano.

The Vienna Presbyterian Church Sanctuary Choir, an experienced group with a large following, most recently performed the two final sections of Handel’s “Messiah” on Palm Sunday evening with Danielle Talamantes as the soprano soloist. It was very well received and attended, so you may want to arrive early to get a good seat!

PERFORMANCE TIME, PLACE, AND TICKET INFORMATION: Sunday, May 7, 2017, at 7 pm.  Vienna Presbyterian Church, 124 Park Street, NE, Vienna, VA 22180.  This is a free concert, and no tickets are required.  There will, however, be a free will offering.  Plenty of free parking is located in the church lot.
