Do You Have Your Silver Service Card?

Card Offers Alexandria Seniors Discounts at Local Businesses

By Mary Lee Anderson, Executive Director of Senior Services of Alexandria

The Silver Service Card program, sponsored by Senior Services of Alexandria (SSA), the City of Alexandria’s Commission on Aging and At Home in Alexandria (AHA), is connecting seniors with local businesses to foster community development and economic growth. The goal of the program is to encourage seniors to be active, enhance their social interactions while patronizing local businesses, and support the local economy.

The program currently includes over 25 participating businesses throughout the city. The Del Ray community has several restaurants that offer senior discounts including Del Ray Cafe, Bombay Curry, Caboose Cafe, Junction Bakery, Pork Barrel BBQ, Stomping Ground and Taqueria el Poblano. Each establishment offers a different type of discount. There are also other types of businesses offering discounts including Four Directions Wellness, Ease Yoga and Cafe, Market to Market, and Greenstreet Gardens, just to name a few.

Other areas of Alexandria including Old Town, the West End and Fairlington offer discounts from 10 percent off in-store purchases at Ten Thousand Villages, to 10 percent off all merchandise on Mondays at Reunions Gifts, and 15 percent off the lunch buffet at the London Curry House in Cameron Station.

This summer SSA is reaching out to more businesses, concentrating in the Old Town area. Senior Alexandrians must present their Silver Service Card in order to receive the benefit. If you are a 60+ senior residing in the city of Alexandria, and you don’t have your Silver Service card, you can pick one up at SSA’s office at 700 Princess Street, Mezzanine Level in Old Town or at AHA’s office at 3139 Mt. Vernon Avenue in Del Ray. A brochure with a list of participating businesses can be found on SSA’s website at seniorservicesalex.org or at senior information corners at public libraries and recreation centers around town.

If you know a local business owner who may be interested in joining the program, let us know! Send an email to [email protected] or call me at 703-836-4414, ext. 111.
