“We are thrilled to have Congressman Beyer as our speaker for this year’s summit,” said Marion Brunken, Executive Director for Volunteer Alexandria. “Congressman Beyer has demonstrated throughout the years that he is dedicated to serving our community. Beyond his work as an elected official, he has spent his time and energy serving numerous local charitable organizations. His dedication has been invaluable.”
Congressman Beyer has worked with a number of charitable organizations in Alexandria and the Commonwealth of Virginia. After finishing his tenure as Lt. Governor of Virginia, he served as chairman of Jobs for Virginia Graduates, Virginia’s most successful high school drop-out prevention program. For three years, he served as president of Youth for Tomorrow, a home for troubled adolescent boys. In addition, he spent a decade on the board of the D.C. Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. His work has also been recognized through several awards, including the James C. Wheat, Jr. Award for Service to Virginians with Disabilities.
“I am honored to speak at the Volunteer Alexandria Business Philanthropy Summit,” said Congressman Beyer. “We are so lucky to live and work in a district where so many business and nonprofit leaders contribute to the City’s betterment. The May summit is a tremendous opportunity to showcase the best of the civic engagement that makes Alexandria so special.”
