From our corner on North Washington Street, the Lee-Fendall House Museum has had a front-row seat to three centuries of Alexandria and national history, from the early republic to the Civil War to the civil rights era.
But all those years of a front-row seat have taken their toll. Both the passage of time and the rumble of constant traffic on Washington Street have left the very foundations on which the house sits in distress. It’s essential that we repair and stabilize the foundations so that we can ensure Lee-Fendall House – and the history it preserves and presents – endures for future generations.
It’s a big project – one that will cost $30,000 to fully see through. Right now, we’re completing the work in sections, and using every opportunity available to us to make progress.
Throughout April, Alexandria’s nonprofits will again celebrate Spring2Action, an annual day of charitable giving in early springtime, and Lee-Fendall’s Spring2Action goal for this year is to raise $3,000 to complete another section of the foundation work.
We’ll kick off that the campaign with a happy hour on Thursday, April 19th at Old Town favorite The Light Horse. Please join us then as we raise a glass to everyone who’s supported our foundation project so far. Our museum staff will be on hand to talk more about the project and answer questions.
Enjoy drinks and snacks at happy hour prices, learn about our plans for this spring and summer, and get an exclusive sneak preview of this year’s highly-anticipated fall fundraiser, Sips & Secrets: A Speakeasy Night.
If you’d like to help us meet this critical preservation need, we’ll be set up that evening to accept your donation through our Spring2Action campaign. And everyone who gives $25 or more to sponsor a brick during the happy hour will be entered in a raffle to win a free ticket to Sips & Secrets!
