Living Legends of Alexandria Mourns the Loss of Two Legendary Alexandrians

Posted on | August 18, 2017 | No Comments

This week saw the loss of two individuals previously celebrated as “Living Legends of Alexandria”:

Patsy Ticer was an affable, memorable and effective community leader who will be sorely missed. Photo by Nina Tisara.

Patsy Ticer, the first woman to serve as Mayor of Alexandria and a four-term Virginia State Senator, was recognized with the designation in 2007; she passed away Monday, August 14. A dedicated volunteer for many years before entering the political arena as a member of the City Council, Ticer was a leader in many areas, including issues related to progressive childcare and early childhood education that have left a significant impact in Alexandria.

Tim Elliot, Alexandria volunteer and activist, served on a number of commissions and championed such Alexandria resources for our citizens as the Scholarship Fund, the City boating facility that serves student and adult rowers, and the School Board.  Elliott, who passed on Thursday, August 17, noted that “time is a vacuum, and you fill it up”, which he certainly did, in a variety of ways, to the benefit of Alexandrians over his lifetime.
