The Light Horse is Hosting “Taps for TAPS” With A Port City Brewing Company Tap Takeover, Feb 26

This event benefits The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS)

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Light Horse is hosting a “Taps for TAPS” Takeover on Tuesday, February 26.  Guests will be able to try a sampling of Port City Brewing Company’s signature and seasonal beers, from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The award-winning Alexandria based brewer will take over five of The Light Horse’s draft lines to serve their popular brews including Optimal Wit, Belgian style white ale; Monumental IPA, India pale ale; a limited release Long Black Veil IPA; black India pale ale; Port City Porter, a robust porter, and beer enthusiasts can look forward to the just released, anniversary edition brew, the Colossal Eight; a German style doppelback lager. 

Beers are priced at $7 to $9 per draft.  $1 for every beer sold will be donated to the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), a non-profit organization that provides care and support to families and friends grieving the loss of a member of the armed forces.  The Light Horse Operating Partners John Jarecki and Kevin Penn have been

active members of TAPS for many years.  Jarecki is a survivor and Penn is a D.C. based retired marine who has been a mentor for a decade and was recently named by TAPS as Mentor of the Year for 2019.

The Light Horse is offering pairings of dishes including salads, small plates, appetizers, sandwiches, entrees, and bar snacks. Items include Chipotle Crab Deviled Eggs; Lentil Quinoa Salad with cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, bell peppers, goat cheese and lemon vinaigrette; Cajun Crab Dip, served with grilled rustic bread; Farro Tots with potato, cheddar, spices and lemon aioli; High Country Quail with house-made rub, grilled scallions, spiced cauliflower purée; Short Rib Tacos, served on corn tortillas with cabbage and cilantro slaw, tomatillo sauce and avocado; Fried Chicken BLT with house-made aioli, lettuce, tomato, cheddar and bacon as well as Steak Frites, 10oz New York strip with house-cut French fries.  Prices range from $7 to $29.

The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors“Taps for TAPS” is an event to raise awareness and funds for the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors.  It serves as a Mentor Meetup for current and prospective mentors, an important service provided by TAPS.  TAPS is in immediate need of volunteer mentors for their upcoming Good Grief Camp, which will be held in Crystal City, Virginia, over Memorial Day Weekend.  Volunteers must be active duty military, a veteran, or a survivor.  For more information on the mentor program, please visit https://www.taps.org/militarymentor.  For more information on TAPS please visit https://www.taps.org/.
