peta-timeline-1PETA’s youth division is bringing a 32-foot-long visual timeline of the animal rights movement to D.C. next week. (See photos here.)

peta-timeline-2Drawing inspiration from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous statement that “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice,” peta2’s Arc of Justice—complete with victories, setbacks, and milestones—challenges onlookers to think about animal rights in the same way that they think about every other major social justice movement—and to consider how simple choices made today, such as attending a circus that uses animals or eating a beef burger, may one day be considered as unthinkably cruel as the 1903 film Electrocuting an Elephant or the practice of using pigs as crash-test dummies, which ended only in 1993.

The Arc of Justice is on a national tour, which began at the University of California–Los Angeles and will continue on to Berkeley, the University of Michigan, Yale, and 15 other top schools in the next four weeks. A smaller version will visit almost 100 other schools.

Where:           University Yard, George Washington University, Washington, D.C.

When:             Thursday, October 20, 12 noon
