Torpedo Factory Artist Cindy Packard Richmond Exhibits in Colonial Beach through September 5

Quirky Water-Themed Based Oils Come Alive

JarrettThor Fine Arts in Colonial Beach is presenting “Water-Borne”, an exhibit of the works of Cindy Packard Richmond. The exhibit continues until September 5.  The public is invited free of charge.

Cindy, a native of Maine, is a published novelist and food writer, as well as a resident artist at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria. Richmond is best known for her bold-colored oil and pastel paintings of sailboats, food, landscapes, and Asian subjects. In this show,  Cindy showcases the water and its immediate surroundings, making everyday objects like battered water buoys stand three-dimensionally on the canvas.

As Richmond states, “Before I discovered I could paint, I spent 20 years as novelist and food writer. I stopped writing after I discovered the beauty of pastels. Five years later, I moved on to oil painting. For many years I painted food, big, corpulent food. Now, I paint an inordinate amount of sailboats and dinghies. I am a poor sailor, but I do love the odd curves of a wooden boat. My subject matter reflects my interests in food, old boats, seascapes, Asian influences and, most especially, the quirky.”

JarrettThor also shows the works of its 30 permanent artists along with unique jewelry, decorative minerals, wooden bowls and reed baskets. Co-located is Tarver Harris Design Studios that features fine silk scarves and her original paintings.

JarrettThor is located at 100 Taylor St. in Colonial Beach. Hours are

10AM-5PM Thursday-Sunday and other times by appointment. For further information, call 804-224-7200 or visit www.jarretthor.com or e-mail [email protected].
