Public Safety and ACPS Partnering for “Read Across Alexandria”

The Alexandria Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the Alexandria City Public Schools and Alexandria Fire Department for “Read Across Alexandria,” a new initiative to bring guest readers into classrooms to read to elementary school students. The program launched on Tuesday, November 15, with Deputy LaJuenne Sherzai-Harding visiting Jefferson-Houston School and members of the Fire Department participating at Cora Kelly Elementary. Deputy Sherzai-Harding read two books to Ms. Nelson’s kindergarten class and looks forward to returning soon. Throughout the school year, deputies and AFD personnel will serve as guest readers and as positive role models by promoting literacy and school attendance.
