Free DASH Shuttles during Metro’s SafeTrack Surge #13

March 6 – April 9, 2017

Monday – Friday: 5 a.m. – 9 a.m. & 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. 

Shuttles will depart every 12 to 15 minutes based on Metrorail arrival times.

1. Free DASH shuttles during Metro’s SafeTrack Surge 13 between King Street-Old Town and Pentagon Metro Stations during weekday rush hour.
2. Updated: Additional early morning and evening trips will be added to the AT3 & AT4 routes (Regular fares apply)

1. Free DASH Shuttle Information: Free shuttles between King Street-Old Town and Pentagon Metro Stations during weekday rush hour.
   Pick-Up / Drop-Off Locations:

• Southbound buses leave from Bay L3 at Pentagon Metro Station (Same bay as AT3 and AT4)
• Northbound buses leave from Bay C at King St. Metro Station (Same bay as AT2, AT7, and AT8)

Note: Many different routes will be sharing these bays, please pay close attention to the destination signs displayed.

Metrorail Surge #13 will directly impact Alexandria. With significant crowding and delays expected, Alexandria riders are advised to use alternatives to Metrorail during this Surge. There will be continuous single tracking on the Yellow Line between Braddock Road and Huntington stations, and on the Blue Line between Braddock Road and Van Dorn stations, and both lines will run with reduced frequency at various times.

The City of Alexandria and the Alexandria Transit Company (DASH) have been working with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and the region’s localities to assist travelers as WMATA’s SafeTrack initiative continues. SafeTrack’s “Safety Surges” involve long-duration track outages for major projects in key parts of the system, which will cause delays throughout the region.

Surge #13, Phase 1: March 4 – April 1

• Continuous single tracking between Braddock Road and Huntington/Van Dorn Street
• Blue Line trains will run every 24 minutes. All Blue Line riders should consider alternate travel options during this time.
• No Yellow Rush+ service between Franconia-Springfield and Greenbelt.
• Yellow Line trains will operate every 24 minutes between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square. All Yellow Line riders south of Reagan National Airport should consider alternate travel options during this time.
• Additional Yellow Line trains will operate between Reagan National Airport and Mt. Vernon Square.
• After 10 p.m., all Yellow Line trains will operate between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square every 24 minutes.

Surge #13, Phase 2: April 2 – April 9

• Continuous single tracking on the Yellow Line only between King St-Old Town and Huntington.
• Yellow Line trains between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square will operate every 24 minutes at all times. All Yellow Line riders should consider alternate travel options during this time. In particular, customers who normally use Huntington or Eisenhower Ave stations should consider Franconia-Springfield or Van Dorn Street stations as alternates.
• Additional Yellow Line trains will operate between Reagan National Airport and Mt. Vernon Square.
• No Yellow Rush+ service between Franconia-Springfield and Greenbelt.
• Blue Line service will operate normally.
• After 10 p.m., all Yellow Line trains will operate between Huntington and Mt. Vernon Square every 24 minutes.

What We Are Doing to Help

BUS

• DASH – DASH Pentagon Shuttle: Free express shuttle buses will run during weekday rush hour between King Street-Old Town and the Pentagon Metro Stations to accommodate Alexandria commuters. Trips will depart roughly every 12-15 minutes and will operate in both directions. For details, visit www.dashbus.com/safetrack.
• DASH – Extra AT3 and AT4 Service: Additional early morning and evening trips will be added to the AT3 & AT4 routes. (Regular fares apply). For details, visit www.dashbus.com/safetrack.
• WMATA Pentagon Shuttle. Free express shuttle buses will run during weekday rush hour between the Franconia-Springfield and Pentagon Metro stations to accommodate commuters on the Blue and Yellow Lines.
• Metroway. Metrobus will increase the frequency of service during rush hour on Metroway between Braddock Road and Pentagon City Metro stations.
• Metrobus Routes. Metrobus will increase the frequency of service on the 11Y (Mount Vernon to Potomac Park) and 10A (Huntington Metro Station to Pentagon Metro Station) bus routes, with normal fares.

RAIL: Riders from Alexandria and southern Fairfax County should consider riding VRE from Franconia-Springfield or King Street-Old Town Metro stations to access the Crystal City Metro station, L’Enfant Plaza Metro station, and Union Station.

BIKE: The City of Alexandria has 31 Capital Bikeshare stations citywide. Consider biking as a travel alternative. Capital Bikeshare has added an option for users to buy a single trip for $2.

ROADS: Alexandria’s Traffic Management Center will be ready to assist and adjust traffic signal timing as needed.

TELEWORK: The City is reaching out to employers, businesses, and retailers to encourage teleworking and flexible work schedules. The City Manager has directed all City departments to expand telework and alternate work schedules for City employees.
