Community Lodgings, BB&T team up to Provide Emergency Food Packs for Kids during Spring Break
Community Lodgings teamed up with volunteers from BB&T to stuff 60 reusable bags of food for low-income and homeless children. Associates from BB&T volunteered their time on April 7th to help provide food to children during their Spring Break.
“A lot of the kids in our programs are pretty food-insecure, and Spring Break can be tough on the families without their kids being able to eat Free or Reduced-Price lunches at school (during that week off),” said Sarah Foote, Community Lodgings’ Volunteer & Development Coordinator. “So this initiative was one that the families were very grateful for.”
Community Lodgings and BB&T invite other members of the community to join them as they work to assist the homeless and working-poor families in the Arlandria-Chirilagua neighborhood they call home. To volunteer or for more information, contact [email protected] or call (703) 549-4407.
“We wanted to work with Community Lodgings because of the great work they do in the Arlandria-Chiriluaga neighborhood and this project was a real need for the children and families during Spring Break” said Jennifer Ferrara, Vice President of Commercial Banking. We’re proud to team up with them and help in any way we can.”
The BB&T volunteers are taking part in the company’s ninth annual Lighthouse Project. The teams have each selected a project to assist a nonprofit agency to complete between April and June to make a positive impact on the lives of people in need. BB&T hopes their efforts encourage others in the community to volunteer their time and support organizations such as Community Lodgings.
Since the inception of the BB&T Lighthouse Project in 2009, BB&T associates have completed more than 9,000 community service projects, donated more than 475,000 hours in volunteer service and touched the lives of more than 13 million people. Associates overwhelmingly voted to bring back the initiative this year. For more information about the Lighthouse Project, go to BBT.com/BBT/LighthouseProject/.
