VISUAL SOUNDSCAPE ARTIST, BRITT CONLEY, FEATURED IN JUNE 4 VIRGINIA HANDBELL CONCERT AT MASONIC MEMORIAL, ALEXANDRIA

By Sara Dudley Brown, Theatre Editor

Visual soundscape artist Britt Conley is collaborating with the Virginia Bronze Handbell Ensemble for their 10th Anniversary Concert, “Mystical and Majestic.” The concert will exhibit an interactive light show featuring Britt’s stained glass interpretations of Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite Finale, Debussy’s Sunken Cathedral, Mussorgsky’s Great Gate of Kiev, and Lux Aeterna.

Britt paints and draws the physics of music as well as illustrating musicality and visual versions of the decision making process of musical creation.  Each year she uses new means and methods to create her visual soundscape interpretations.  This year’s project knits together the world of stained glass and music.  Four works will stand six feet tall behind the ensemble and bathe the musical experience with a live light show.  Should you, unfortunately, miss this June 4 concert, there will be an encore performance on Saturday, June 17th, 2017 at 4:00pm in the McGuireWoods Gallery at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Virginia.
