Burke & Herbert Bank Celebrates 165th Birthday
August marks the month that Burke & Herbert Bank was founded in 1852. The Bank will celebrate with the introduction of a special birthday offer for customers, an in-branch celebration on Friday, August 25, beginning at noon, and a Cupcake Giveway on Facebook. When the Burke and Herbert families first opened the doors, there were three banks in the City of Alexandria. Of those three, only Burke & Herbert Bank remains. It has the distinction of being the oldest bank in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Bank survived the Civil War, the Great Depression, and numerous economic downturns. Throughout its storied history the Bank can be connected to Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Robert E. Lee and George Mason, to name a few. In addition to historic name dropping, the Bank is also known for its love of animals—furry and feathered! The Bank’s mascot Runyon is modeled after a parrot that lived at the Bank for many years. The Bank attributes its longevity to its continuous emphasis on putting the customer first. Offering exceptional personalized customer service is every team members’ mantra. In recent years, the Bank has also invested in all the modern products and conveniences that customers want and need.
Cupcake Giveway on Facebook
The public is invited to take part in the 165-year celebration by entering the Birthday Cupcake Giveaway on Facebook. One lucky winner will receive two dozen Alexandria Cupcake birthday cupcakes. The giveaway is targeted to debut on the Bank’s Facebook page on Monday, August 7 and run through Friday, August 18.
Celebration In-Branch August 25 at Noon
The public is invited to stop by any of the Bank’s 25 locations throughout Northern Virginia on Friday, August 25 to share in the celebration. The Bank will be sharing cupcakes and gifts, starting at noon, with all who stop by (while supplies last).
