Alexandria City Public Schools Gets New Director of Transportation
Charles Stone Appointed by Superintendent
Interim Superintendent Lois F. Berlin has appointed Charles Stone as the director of transportation for Alexandria City Public Schools.
Stone is a longtime transportation leader with extensive experience successfully managing transportation operations for school districts and the military. He brings more than 25 years of experience in school transportation management and 20 years of experience in providing logistical support for U.S. Army activities worldwide.
Stone’s experience includes working in rapidly growing school divisions where he managed the transportation needs of growing student populations and the reorganization of school attendance boundaries.
“Mr. Stone brings a wealth of experience in managing complex transportation needs in evolving situations. This will be immensely important as we bring the new West End Elementary School online and implement redistricting in the 2018-19 school year. His experience will be invaluable as we navigate through these transitions,” said Interim Superintendent Lois F. Berlin.
Stone comes to ACPS from Denver Public Schools in Colorado following an assignment in Weatherford, Texas. Before that, he served for 14 years as the director of transportation in Mansfield, Texas where he led transportation and related alternative fueling initiatives for one of the fastest-growing school districts in Texas. Collectively, he has served as a Texas director of transportation for more than twenty years. During his time in the U.S. Army, Major Stone led initiatives related to the strategic movement of troops and equipment in Europe.
Stone holds a master’s in business administration from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas and is a Certified Texas Pupil Transportation Official. He is also a decorated Army veteran and past president of the Texas Association for Pupil Transportation.
Stone will start in his new role on January 2, 2018.
