Wahoos Have Winning Season

The Chinquapin Wahoos finished an undefeated 2018 season (5-0). They won the girls championship, the boys championship, Carnival Relays, and the combined Blue Division Championship in the Colonial Swim League.

The team has approximately 200 swimmers from age 5 to age 18. Dennis Burstein, the head coach, states, “Our team is built on the development of proper stroke technique from a young age. Attention is given to each swimmer on the premise that as each swimmer improves, the team gets stronger. We teach through fundamentals and the result has been three different Championships in recent years. Our goal is individual improvement which leads to team improvement and it has proven a successful model.

Coaches who are more interested in just a won-loss record are often short-sighted in their approach. We want our swimmers to learn and have fun, and the winning has taken care of itself.”
