Alexandria, VA– With the beginning of a New Year comes the welcoming of a new president and chief executive officer for Democracy Federal Credit Union. On January 2, Democracy FCU welcomed Ken Cahoon, who will succeed Kathy Geary as the president and CEO. Ms. Geary announced her retirement in the fall of 2018, after 37 years in the industry. Mr. Cahoon has more than 23 years of experience in the financial services industry and previously held the position of Vice President of Retail Delivery with the National Institute of Health Federal Credit Union.
“The Democracy FCU board of directors are honored to have Mr. Cahoon join the credit union in the distinguished role as president and CEO,” said Patricia Ellis, Chairman. “His financial services background coupled with his years of experience in management, lending, and operations, make him an excellent choice for this position.”
In his new role, Mr. Cahoon will ensure financial stability in the best interest of the members, the employees and the credit union while maintaining all aspects of the credit union’s operations and activities in accordance with policies and procedures established by the board of directors. Mr. Cahoon will provide strategic direction, vision, and leadership to ensure that Democracy FCU’s goals and objectives are being met.
Mr. Cahoon has accomplished a number of achievements in previous positions, where he began his career focusing on consumer and mortgage lending, branch operations, and quickly climbed the ladder to roles in management. Democracy FCU is looking forward to having him build on the successes of the credit union, and take it to the next level of excellence.
Mr. Cahoon is a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance.
