Senior Services of Alexandria 2019 Annual Gala

Making Alexandria a Great Community for all Ages

By Mary Wadland

Senior Services of Alexandria’s (SSA) Annual Gala, with over 350 expected guests, happens Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Westin Alexandria from 6 – 10 pm, and pays tribute to individuals who have helped make Alexandria a caring and compassionate community for everyone. The gala continues its history of honoring a family who has passed down a tradition of community service.

This year’s honorees are: Congressman Don Beyer and his daughter Stephanie Beyer Kirby; Hon. Lynnwood Campbell and Jen Walker.

Don Beyer and Stephanie Beyer Kirby

Congressman Don Beyer is serving his second term as the United States Representative from Virginia’s 8th District that includes the City of Alexandria. He served as Lieutenant Governor of Virginia, and Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein under President Obama. Mr. Beyer has spent four decades building his family business in Northern Virginia and serving the community tackling issues such as high-school dropout prevention and prevention of teen pregnancy and was the co-founder of the Northern Virginia Technology Council.

Stephanie Beyer Kirby has continued the family tradition of service not only in the family business, serving as Vice President with the Beyer Auto Group, but giving back to her community. She is active with the Chamber of Commerce, the non-profit RunningBrooke and Inova Alexandria’s Quality Board. She recently joined the event planning and fundraising efforts for Maury Elementary’s 10th Anniversary PTA Gala.

Lynwood Campbell

Lynnwood Campbell is a life-long resident of Alexandria and has had a major impact on Alexandria’s public schools and policies toward children, older adults, human rights, the city budget and charitable giving. He’s served on numerous non-profit boards including the Chairman of Senior Services of Alexandria. He worked at Price Waterhouse and retired from Federal Service from the Department of Treasury after 32 years. In 2011, Lynnwood was named as a Living Legend of Alexandria. Of his contributions, Lynnwood says simply, “People asked me to serve, and I served.”

Jen Walker

Jen Walker has made significant contributions to the Alexandria community for more than 20 years. Her name is synonymous with community, and she has earned incredible respect from her peers and Alexandria residents for her generosity. She has been involved in countless non-profit activities and leadership roles in Alexandria including Art on the Avenue, First Night Alexandria, Alive!, Senior Services of Alexandria and numerous other organizations. Jen Walker manages a full-time career with McEnearney Associates Realtors while giving back to her community.

“SSA is proud to honor those who have helped make Alexandria a great community for all ages,” said Jack Fannon, Board Chair of Senior Services of Alexandria. “We will also honor Alexandria’s seniors who rely on the programs and services that SSA provides in order for them to age with dignity.”
