Coming April 5th: Family Art Night Presented by Office of the Arts

by Kevin Dauray

First Fridays are in full swing again! Family Art Night will take place at the Durant Arts Center, located at 1605 Cameron Street, on Friday, April 5th. Activities begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 9 p.m. However, if you arrive half an hour early, you’ll find pizza, water and soda waiting!

The Office of the Arts, part of the Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities Department, is proud to support and further the merit of arts and culture throughout the City. This attitude is exhibited, as their website indicates, by “engaging with the community, encouraging participation and facilitating access to the arts.” In that spirit, no prior experience is necessary to participate in the festivities!

There will be three activities: Paint with Teresa Brunson (Ages five and up with an adult); Create Mosaics with Maria Illingworth (Ages six and up with an adult); and Create a Clay Sculpture with Sharmila Karmchandani (Ages five and up with an adult). Reservations are required for all events and cost $9, though children under five are free (to watch). The painting session is limited to 50 people, the mosaic session is limited to 30 and the sculpture session is limited to 20. Please note that parents or guardians should accompany their children to the activities. To register, click HERE.

For more information, click on the Office of the Arts link above or contact Cheryl Anne Colton at 703-746-5565 or [email protected]. She is glad to assist with reasonable accommodations.
