Renovated Old Town Safeway Is Set for Ribbon-Cutting
ALEXANDRIA, VA—Safeway will unveil renovations to its Old Town store at 500 S. Royal Street in Alexandria, VA, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 10 am on Friday, May 3.
According to a Safeway press release, local dignitaries including Council members Canek Aguirre and Amy Jackson are expected to join Safeway leaders for the celebration, which will also include live music from the New Line Brass Band, refreshments and free gifts.
“We are pleased to share renovations throughout the store that enhance our customers’ shopping experience,” said Tom Lofland, President of Safeway’s Eastern Division. “We have added new features that greatly expand our selections. Our Old Town customers will surely enjoy the newly renovated store.”
Improved Deli, Produce, Beer and Wine Plus Home Delivery
The deli now offers an extensive selection of specialty cheeses as well as dips, salsa and hummus. Additional offerings include prepared meals, sandwiches, salads, and hot foods.
The meat department has increased the selection of organic, grass-fed and natural products, including Open Nature chicken, beef and pork, as well as Organic chicken and beef.
The produce department now features all new fixtures, doubling the linear display space, and thus increasing both organic and conventional offerings. The fresh cut fruits and vegetables case has been increased by more than 12-feet.
The renovated bakery department has added a new bread case with an expanded assortment of commercial breads. Safeway has also installed new frozen food cases, expanded the dairy section, and added more than 700 new items in the grocery, frozen and dairy sections.
The Old Town Safeway has increased space and selection in the beer and wine department, adding a new beer cooler providing a larger assortment of beers, including local craft brews. A special case featuring Safeway’s new collection of fine wines has also been added.
Traditional Safeway features include deli, meat and seafood, and produce departments. The store also offers busy shoppers time-saving amenities including Safeway home delivery, and Instacart service with RUSH delivery. The Old Town Safeway, which operates from 5 am until 10 pm seven days a week, has a customer service desk at which customers can purchase money orders, send money via Western Union, and pay bills.

As part of the ribbon-cutting celebration, Safeway will further its legacy of philanthropy and community involvement by presenting donations to two local community organizations: The Campagna Center and ALIVE!
