By George! Swanky George Washington-inspired Airbnb Opens in Old Town
We can't tell a lie - George Washington totally would've slept here...
Alexandria, VA- Have you heard about The George? It’s a house fit for a president – the first president, in fact. Alexandria’s newest Airbnb at 506 Cameron Street, is located on property that was once owned by George Washington, and the interior is designed to give that colonial flavor you’ll find at Mount Vernon.
Martha and Steven Peterson bought the house last November for $2 million. It is next door to a replica of Washington’s townhouse at 508 Cameron Street. Washington owned seven lots in Old Town, and was a member of Christ Church. The four-level home includes a basement, has eight bedrooms (two of which are suites) and 8.5 baths.
“How often can you own property that belonged to the most celebrated American in history?” Steven Peterson said. “George Washington lived in two places during the Revolutionary War – at Mount Vernon and at his townhouse next door.”
The Peterson’s held a grand opening for the property complete with music from the Sage String Quartet, an open bar and food from the kitchen, which is where Washington’s Old Town kitchen was reportedly located.
“It’s been an unbelievable project,” said Martha Peterson, who also owns a home renovation company The Brick House. “We worked on this seven days a week, 10 hours a day to make it livable and beautiful.”
The couple also became members of George Washington’s Mount Vernon, and modeled many of the rooms after the first-first family’s home.
“This is going to be a perfect place for wedding parties, family reunions and so many occasions,” Steven Peterson said. “We’re very proud of it.”
Interested in staying at The George? The home opens on July 1, and costs between $200 per room or $3,900 for the entire property.
