Vice Mayor Elizabeth Bennett-Parker Bringing Butterfly Effect Mural to Old Town
Here's a chance to make a lasting impression in Alexandria.
Alexandria, VA- Now this is our kind of graffiti! On Saturday, June 29, Alexandria Vice Mayor Elizabeth Bennett-Parker will create a large butterfly mural with city residents at the side of Bloomers at 924 King Street. Through Sept. 8, visitors will be able to take a pictures with the butterfly wings behind them, and then select a local charity of their choice to send a donation.
Tasha Wahl is the Founder of The Butterfly Effect, an artistic movement of raising funds for local nonprofits by creating butterfly installations. To date, the nonprofit has collected more than $100,000 for 400 charities around the world.
“I’m excited to bring the Butterfly Effect to Alexandria, because it will build community, promote vibrancy on upper King Street, and highlight nonprofits in a fun, interactive way,” Bennett-Parker said. “I’m thankful to Tasha Wahl for her vision in starting this global project and for choosing Alexandria; to Asana and Bloomer’s for providing the space for the mural; and to the members of the community who will bring it to life.”
The idea behind the butterfly effect is inspiring. It’s modeled after Edward Lorenz’s “Butterfly Effect” theory that even the softest flutter of a wing can affect the molecules around it, setting off a chain reaction results in major results.
