Alexandria Police: Be Mindful of This Phone Scam!
The caller asks for a donation to APD via payment apps or by providing their credit card information to the caller.
Alexandria, VA- The Alexandria Police Department will never call your home asking for donations. That’s what the APD says is happening in a new phone scam.
City residents have received calls from a person identifying themselves as a member of the department. The caller asks for a donation to APD via payment apps or by providing their credit card information to the caller.
According to APD:
“The Alexandria Police Department does not make such calls and will never request donations over the phone. If you receive such a call, immediately hang up. Do not provide the caller with any information and do not answer any questions.
“If you are a victim of this scam and have been defrauded of money, please report it to the Alexandria Police Department by calling 703.746.4444 or by contacting the law enforcement agency where you live.”
Scammers Using Another Tactic
Earlier this month, the Sheriff’s Office warned residents about phone scammers attempting to get the same information by asking residents for outstanding ticket and court fines.
