Be a Superhero and Help Clear the Shelters in Alexandria!

Be an adoption superhero on August 17 at 11 a.m. and adopt your new best friend. Can't adopt? Clear it forward by making a donation.

Alexandria, VA – On August 17, be an adoption superhero by joining the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA), in coordination with NBC4 and Telemundo 44, to Clear the Shelters.  In an effort to find more homes for shelter animals across the country, adoption fees will be waived for ALL adoptable animals at the AWLA during this epic, nationwide adoption event.  The AWLA will open its doors an hour early, at 11 a.m., to accommodate the additional visitors who are racing faster than a speeding bullet to meet their new furry friends.

To make the event fun for the whole family, the AWLA will be hosting a tent with activities for superheroes of all ages, as well as a yard sale with discounted pet supplies, a bake sale with sweet treats and more.  Donations from these events will benefit the shelter. And all participants are invited to don their best superhero gear as they visit the AWLA to meet their new best friend. Attendees should note that the waiting line for the event will be outdoors and to plan accordingly.

Not everyone can adopt, but everyone CAN be a superhero on August 17 to help the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria Clear the Shelters!

But to care for pets all year long, we need your help!  Adoption fees cover a variety of costs here at the shelter, from food and shelter to veterinary costs and special medications.  We are waiving these costs on August 17 to Clear the Shelter, but you can make a pledge today to Clear It Forward so we are able to provide this love and attention to all of Alexandria’s Animals, every day of the year.

Track the AWLA shelter-clearing progress on August 17 on our homepage to track the animals adopted and the funds raised to help other animals in need.  Stay tuned for more on August 17!
