Celebrate a safe Halloween with friends and neighbors during Halloween Spirit Week, October 25 through October 31. The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities offers a variety of fun options for families, and even their four-legged friends throughout Alexandria. Dress as your favorite character or creature and celebrate safely at a recreation center near you.

  • Boo-Fest
    Friday, October 25, 6-8 p.m.
    Charles Houston Recreation Center (901 Wythe St.)
    All Ages. Enjoy a costume parade, carnival games, moon bounce, arts & crafts, stories, and more. Free.
  • Family Masquerade Ball
    Friday, October 25, 6-9 p.m.
    Vernon Recreation Center (2701 Commonwealth Ave.)
    Ages 5 & up. Enjoy dancing, photo opportunities, a costume contest and refreshments. $9 each.
  • Family October Fest
    Friday, October 25, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
    Patrick Henry Recreation Center (4653 Taney Ave.)
    All Ages. Check out a haunted house, arts & crafts, spooky musical chairs, face painting, scary movies, spooky dance and more. $5 each.
  • Fall Halloween Fest
    Saturday, October 26, 12-4 p.m.
    Leonard “Chick” Armstrong Recreation Center (25 W. Reed Ave.)
    All Ages. Kick off the Fall season with family fun activities including games, Halloween themed crafts, face painting, and costume contests. Free.
  • Halloween Strobe Light Painting
    Saturday, October 26, 7-11 p.m.
    William Ramsay Recreation Center (5650 Sanger Ave.)
    Ages 8 & up. Dress like a ghost in a plastic poncho and gloves while painting with conventional and unconventional materials for spooky fun! $5 each.
  • Halloweiner Fest
    Sunday, October 27, 2:30-4:30 p.m.
    Charles Houston Recreation Center (901 Wythe St.)
    All Ages. Furry friends compete for Best Costume, Largest Dog, Smallest Dog, Most Adorable and Coolest Trick. Proof of vaccination required. Dogs must remain on leashes. Refreshments available for sale. $9 each.
  • Trunk or Treat Block Party
    Thursday, October 31, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
    Nannie J. Lee Recreation Center (1108 Jefferson St.)
    Ages 12 & under and their families. Treat the whole family to a ghostly time with activities and treats while jamming with a live DJ! Free.
