ALEXANDRIA, VA – Charitable giving in a time of uncertainty warms the heart and lifts the soul. On July 2, Senior Services of Alexandria (SSA) announced that they received a $3,000 donation from Food Lion Feeds, the grocery chain’s charitable foundation. The gift arrived just in time to help the Meals on Wheels program.

“Senior Services of Alexandria is grateful to the Food Lion Feeds charitable foundation for its generous gift that will help support SSA’s Meals on Wheels program that delivers nutritious meals to homebound older adults 365 days a year,” said Mary Lee Anderson, SSA’s Executive Director.

For over 50 years, SSA has provided services and programs that help foster independence and self-sufficiency, enabling seniors within the City of Alexandria to age with dignity. During the pandemic, their meals on Wheels partnership with Alexandria’s Division of Aging and Adult Services has expanded to include the Groceries-to-Go delivery program. SSA also started the Friendly Visitor program to combat isolation in the senior citizens population.

Food Lion Feeds, established in 2001, provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $12 million in grants.
