Young Chef and Restaurant Owner, Hugh Fregnan, Loses Battle with Brain Cancer

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Hugh Fregnan, 45, passed away from glioblastoma (GBM), an aggressive brain cancer, on November 10, 2020.

An accomplished chef, Hugh and his wife Anne-Claire have owned and operated the award-winning Le Refuge Restaurant in Alexandria, Virginia since taking over the legendary operation from Anne-Claire’s family about 10 years ago.

“It all happened so fast,” says heart-broken Anne-Claire. “He was just diagnosed on September 14.”

Loving tributes and cherished memories are being posted all over social media for Hugh who is being remembered as a loving husband, father and son as well as an amazing and popular friend.

Hugh is survived by his wife Anne-Claire, his daughter, Savanna, and his mother, Richelle. There is a viewing scheduled from 11 am to 3 p.m. Sunday, November 15 at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 South Washington Street, in Old Town, Alexandria.
