Alexandria, VA- The Lee-Fendall House was built by two prominent families, the Lees of Virginia and the Fendalls of Maryland, on land purchased from Henry “Light-Horse Harry” Lee. In 1785, Philip R. Fendall, a local businessman and member of both families, had his home built at what today is the 614 Oronoco Street site.
Between 1785 and 1903, the Lee-Fendall House was home to 37 members of the Lee family, enslaved and free African American servants, and convalescing Union soldiers. Today, the museum has a program of exhibits and events for visitors of all ages, like their popular Easter Egg Hunt in the Garden on April 16 and 17.
“The role of our staff and volunteers is to educate the community about our shared past,” says Amanda Roper, Executive Director at Lee-Fendall House Museum and Garden.
This Easter, children and their families can explore the museum, hunt eggs in the garden, and visit with the Easter Bunny! Attendance is limited, and reservations must be made in advance.
