ALEXANDRIA, VA-One week ago, The Zebra Press reported that Alexandria’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities is seeking community input on the redesign of Colasanto Pool at 2700 Mt. Vernon Ave. Ahead of the May 13 virtual meeting, the Del Ray Gateway Project has released the three proposed designs.

According to documentation provided to The Zebra, guidelines indicate that the new Colasanto Interactive Fountain/Spray Park will include at grade aquatic facilities, be multigenerational and inclusive, function as both a plaza and entry way, and should include an art component. None of the three designs will interfere with the Colasanto Center.

“The members of The Del Ray Gateway Project and The City of Alexandria are very excited to share the initial concept designs created by LSG Landscape Architecture which were based on community surveys and feedback,” Nancy Lee of the Del Ray Gateway Project told the Zebra Press. “We hope to work with residents this year to collaborate and come up with the best version of a final concept that represents the spirit of Del Ray. We hope we can take an old abandoned pool and turn it into a welcoming community plaza that can be used year round for all ages.”

The futuristic-looking designs include a sitting and planting area that surround fountains and walking paths.
