Alexandria, VA – Find your muse this summer! Del Ray Artisans’ Creative Summer Programs is a series of both virtual and in-person workshops, talks, and events exploring the arts from June 1 through August 31.
The Del Ray Artisans offer a wide variety of programs to inspire all ages and skill levels. Learn techniques in painting, sculpture, collage, mixed media, sketching, and more from local artists. Play with resin; paint dewy leaves with watercolor; crochet a potholder, headband, or fingerless gloves; learn how to draw the human figure; and more. Included this year are unique outdoor events to paint or sketch (or just meet!) live animal models, including an African pixie frog, blue tongue skink, Gila monster, and snakes.
In addition to adult workshops, the Del Ray Artisans’ popular Summer Art Camp returns. Older children may appreciate learning detailed watercolor techniques. Ages 8 and up can tessellate (drawing patterns of repeated shapes that closely fit without gaps or overlapping). There’s also a workshop for parents and children to work together to collage shadow boxes using upcycled materials.
The Del Ray Artisans also has free offerings, including online talks on salamanders and turtles offered by the Virginia Herpetological Society in conjunction with Del Ray Artisans’ The Naked and the Newt art exhibit; plus free Urban Sketchbooking programs and distanced art swaps with other artists.
Del Ray Artisans’ Creative Summer Programs runs from June 1 through August 31, 2021; registration will end 3-7 days before each workshop and is available at the gallery or online at DelRayArtisans.org/programs/creative-summer.
Del Ray Artisans, founded in 1992, is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote art for the benefit of artists and the community. For more information, visit DelRayArtisans.org/programs/creative-summer
