Myron Mixon Wins 5th World BBQ Grand Championship
The “Winningest Man in BBQ,” Myron Mixon, has won his 5th World BBQ Championship title in Memphis, a record 20-year run of winning the BBQ Championship title.
Alexandria, VA – The “Winningest Man in BBQ,” Myron Mixon, has won his 5th World BBQ Championship title in Memphis, a record 20-year run of winning the BBQ Championship title. He first won in 2001 and now, 20 years later, he is still winning. He was also named champion in 2004 and 2007.
In late May, Myron was working the crowd at “Whole Hog Night” at his restaurant, Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster Barbeque in Old Town. Not only did he just win his 5th World BBQ Title, but on May 11, he also released a new cookbook, Keto BBQ. Loyal fans congratulated him on his latest win and asked him to sign a copy of his latest book. Mixon lost 100 pounds in nine months by eating this way, and he is eager to share what worked for him to lose weight.
Mixon opened his first restaurant in Alexandria in 2017. He recently opened another in Miami, Florida. In July, the third Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster Barbeque will open in Hoboken, New Jersey. All the recipes are his or from family members.
When asked why he chose Alexandria, Mixon said, “This is a cool place…I’ll do whatever it takes in my power to make sure that Alexandria has a great barbeque place.” He opened with a partner in 2017 but now owns 100% of the business. And even though the restaurant was shut down from May until October due to COVID, his employees were loyal. The entire kitchen staff returned. Mixon feels lucky that they didn’t have to retrain; they picked up right where they had left off.
Myron Mixon’s Pitmaster Barbeque is located at 220 N Lee Street, Alexandria. Hours are Monday-Thursday 11:30 am to 10:00 pm; Fridays and Saturdays 11:30 am to 11:00 pm; Sunday 11:00 am to 9:00 pm.
