ALEXANDRIA, VA–Earlier this week, Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that he would lift the mask mandate for schools across Virginia. The Alexandria City Public School System responded yesterday, stating they will continue to abide by the health and safety guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and the Alexandria Health Department.

Each institution recommends that masks be worn at all times indoors. Thus, ACPS will continue to require all individuals to wear masks that cover the nose and mouth when inside ACPS schools, facilities, and on buses.

Masking guidelines, in conjunction with other safety protocols, will continue to be followed in order to assure schools remain open for in-person learning and staff and students stay safe.

Latest research suggest that masks of the N95 and KN95 brand provide the most protection against the spread of COVID-19. ACPS will receive their full shipments of KN95 masks by Wednesday, January 19.
