Wear Purple on October 18 to Support Awareness, Celebrate Survivors of Domestic Violence

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This is an opportunity to raise awareness and educate our community on the pattern of abusive behaviors that many women and men endure, while also celebrating the survivors of domestic violence.

On Thursday, Oct. 18, help paint Alexandria purple and raise awareness about domestic violence by wearing or displaying purple. Use the hashtag #PurpleThursday on social media as YOUR opportunity to get involved, take a stand against domestic violence and express your solidarity with survivors of domestic violence and their families. Share your photos using the #PurpleThursday hashtag or email them to [email protected].

Purple Out Day is a regional event that brings together domestic violence first responders to promote awareness by wearing purple on a designated day in October. The color purple symbolizes the courage, persistence, honor and commitment to ending domestic violence.
