Alexandria, VA – A tree nearly as old as Alexandria is tucked away in a peaceful courtyard in Del Ray. The Green Ash at 6 Nelson Ave is a large and beautiful tree that rises far above the two buildings composing the Manor House Apartments. The tree is a National Champion tree, which is no surprise given its stature and magnificent canopy. Green Ash trees are threatened by the Emerald Ash borer, a type of Beetle that feeds on Ash trees. However, Green Ash trees may possess a genetic resistance to such insects.
