Alexandria, VA –  Tatte Bakery and Cafe is opening on January 24 at 515 King Street in Old Town Alexandria, bringing an extensive, all day menu that includes breakfast items, soups, tartines, quiche, salads, sandwiches, shakshuka, hot and cold coffee and tea creations, and a sizeable gluten free menu.

Founder Tzurit Or began baking over 15 years ago in Boston and selling her wares at the Copley Square farmers market. According to her website, “Her vision for Tatte was humble in origin — grounded in a simple mission to bring people together around great food and pastries while providing a deep sense of comfort and belonging.”

The Alexandria space is spare, simple with white subway tile, focusing your attention on the display cases filled with sweet and savory delights. There are both tables and a counter for you to sit and enjoy your meal. The biggest problem you may encounter is what to choose.

The menu at Tatte highlights the flavors of the Mediterranean and also includes many American favorites. Dishes feature local and seasonal flavors. You’ll find both hot and cold items including three varieties of shakshuka, quiche, and tartines.  Plates, bowls, salads, and sandwiches dominate the menu. Although many of the items seem indulgent, they are all based in healthy, clean eating. You’ll see that Mediterranean theme running through the menu with the inclusion of feta, labneh, prosciutto, and halloumi.
