Alexandria, VA – Attention dog lovers! Mark your calendars for the highly anticipated third annual ALX Dog Walk on April 20, 2024, at 8:00 AM in Old Town Alexandria, VA. Early-Dog registration opens January 15, there are exciting add-ons to this year’s event – get ready to unleash the fun!
INTRODUCING THE SUSTAINABILITY FESTIVAL
Be a part of the movement towards plastic-free and sustainable living at our Sustainability Festival. This add-on to the dog walk event provides a platform for organizations to host tables to showcase their eco-friendly products, services, and programs. Engage with experts, explore sustainable products firsthand, and discover innovative solutions to reduce plastic waste. Together, we can make a difference!
JOIN THE SPRING2ACTION VILLAGE
In collaboration with ACT for Alexandria’s Spring2ACTion, Alexandria’s online giving event (Spring2ACTion.org), we’re inviting 25 Spring2ACTion nonprofit members to join us in promoting their organizations through the ALX Dog Walk event. Each participating nonprofit will host a plastic-free event table. It’s a win-win situation where walkers can learn about great causes while enjoying a fantastic morning out with their furry friends.
MEET “SPARKY” the ALX DOG WALK MASCOT DOG TOPIARY
Introducing Sparky, the adorable mascot dog topiary igniting conversation about plastic-free and sustainable living! Decorate your doorstep with this charming creation that allows you to grow plant material on it. Participants can purchase Sparky through the Walk’s registration page. Moss and Vine Topiary will donate proceeds to the Walk for each dog purchased (free shipping to the address provided in registration!).
DOG TOPIARY SILENT AUCTION
But hold on, there’s another exciting twist! On Walk Day, there will be a silent auction bidding table featuring a collection of extraordinary dog topiaries (also donated by Moss and Vine Topiary!) bound to tug at your heartstrings.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON WALK DAY
On April 20, 2024, from 7 AM to 11 AM, walkers will gather at Oronoco Bay Park in Alexandria for an unforgettable experience. Over 500 furry friends and countless dog enthusiasts will enjoy a scenic two-mile walk down historic Union Street, returning along the picturesque Potomac River to Oronoco Bay Park for an action-packed celebration hosted by NBC Washington’s Storm Team 4 Meteorologist Chuck Bell. Walkers will enjoy a Sustainability Festival, Spring2ACTion Village, DJ music, a judged dog competition (six winners receive a $100 gift card to The Dog Store!), photo booths, a dog obstacle course, dog tattoo artists, bubbles, a fun park game with exciting prizes, baked goods and coffee, and an adorable doggie topiary silent auction bidding table!
DON’T MISS THE SCRUMPTIOUS BAKE SALE
Indulge your taste buds at the scrumptious bake sale hosted by The Board of Lady Managers of Inova Alexandria Hospital. Help raise funds for the hospital by enjoying their delectable treats. Bring a stainless steel coffee mug to the event, and you can enjoy some hot coffee compliments of the Walk, along with kudos for being plastic-free and zero waste!
ABOUT ALX DOG WALK
The ALX Dog Walk, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, organizes an annual dog walk event to build community, have a barking good time, and raise funds that help to spread the word about the importance of plastic-free and sustainable living throughout the District, Maryland, and Virginia region. One hundred percent of net funds go toward the launch of education and awareness initiatives year-round, and we also support other nonprofit programs that directly help us to achieve our mission. Each year, ALX Dog Walk also helps to beautify the City of Alexandria, home of its annual dog walk – it’s our way of showing appreciation! The Walk’s 2024 beautification support will go toward helping the Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail with their continuous upkeep and maintenance of the beloved trail.
