Alexandria, VA – Beginning at the turn of the 20th century, and in business through the 1930s, the Lee Street Ice House provided Alexandria’s residents and businesses with ice, before people had access to refrigerators. It sold hundreds of thousands of pounds each year. There were two ice houses in the city. The Lee Street location still has its historic look and sign. What happened to the second ice house on Commerce Street? The property is occupied by Goodies Frozen Custard & Treats, owned by Brandon Byrd.
