15 Alexandria Teachers Awarded Highest Professional Honor
ALEXANDRIA, VA-During the April 11 meeting of the Alexandria City School Board, 15 teachers were recognized for receiving the highest professional honor in teaching. Each individual spotlighted had earned National Board Certification. All 15 are employed by Alexandria City Public Schools.
“Completing this process demonstrates the commitment of these staff members to their own professional growth as well as being committed to providing the best quality in educating our youth,” said Melvina Crawl, Executive Director of Professional Learning and Special Programs. “The investment that ACPS makes to support teachers pursuing this national certification shows that we also value the professional growth of those we hire to serve in our schools.”
The certification’s purpose is to help educators develop, honor them for their dedication, and help schools keep them. It also sets a bar for the improvement of schools across the country.
The newly-certified teachers are:
- Brandy Bowles, Douglas MacArthur Elementary School, Academic Interventionist, Literacy-Reading and Language Arts – Early to Middle Childhood
- Megan Gibiser, Douglas MacArthur Elementary School, EL Teacher, English as a New Language-Early to Middle Childhood
- Andrea Houston, Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School, Advanced Academic Services Teacher, Literacy-Reading and Language Arts-Early to Middle Childhood
- Jessica Raugitinane, Central Office, EL Curriculum Specialist, English as a New Language-Early to Middle Childhood
- Luisa Tio, Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School, Art Teacher, Art – Early to Middle Childhood
