ALEXANDRIA, VA-The Twig, the Junior Auxiliary of Inova Alexandria Hospital, held their annual meeting on Wednesday, June 5, at the Belle Haven Country Club. There, they presented the hospital with a $300,000 check. This closed out The Twig’s $500,000 pledge for the hospital to upgrade its trauma program to Level 3, which will enable trauma patients in the city to be treated at the hospital, rather than being transferred to Inova Fairfax or GW.

In addition to this donation, The Twig award three scholarships, each worth $5,000, for advanced education to hospital employees Christopher Chira, BSN RN, CNOR; Christa Madry, RN; and Peronica Smith, RN.

The Twig also took time to recognize three members for long time service. JoAnn Droms and Seema Nawaz were honored for 25 years of service. Helenmarie Shipp was spotlighted for 40 years of service.

The 2024-2025 Executive Board took office as well.

Founded in 1933, The Twig operates a Thrift Shop at 106 N. Columbus St. The organization also hosts the Annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tour. Both fundraising efforts have enabled the donation of more than $5 million to the hospital since 1933 over the past 91 years.

The 82nd Annual Historic Homes Tour will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21. Tickets go on sale later this summer.
