Alexandria, VA – The Del Ray Business Association hosted the 15th Annual Taste of Del Ray on June 2, showcasing a diverse collection of Del Ray’s top restaurants. The sold-out event featured a spirited competition between 16 participating neighborhood restaurants.
Spice Kraft Indian Bistro’s Paneer Samosa Cannoli – a fusion of classic Indian flavors with an Italian twist – won both the Judges’ Choice Award and the People’s Choice Award, as voted by festival attendees. This is the second year in a row that Spice Kraft took home the top prize in both categories. “The presentation was one of the best – but they took it absolutely over the top with the taste,” said Washington Business Journal Assistant Managing Editor Drew Hansen. Hansen and his son, Hank, served as judges.
Newcomer La’Baik, Del Ray’s new Mediterranean restaurant located at 2309 Mount Vernon Avenue, had an impressive first showing; their falafel – a 40-year-old family recipe – took home 2nd place in the Judges’ category and 3rd place in the People’s Choice vote.
Rounding out the awards were a 2nd place People’s Choice win for Del Ray Cafe; and a tie between Taqueria Poblano and Evening Star Cafe’s Hi-Fi BBQ for third place in the Judge’s Choice category.
Held every June in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, the Taste of Del Ray showcases the neighborhood’s top restaurants in a spirited competition sponsored by the Del Ray Business Association.
