Local Youth All-Star Baseball Team Plays in Regional Tourney for First Time Beginning July 16; Winner Advances to Cal Ripken World Series

ALEXANDRIA, VA-Watching kids play baseball is watching the sport in its purest form. Beginning this Tuesday (July 16), the Pioneer Youth Baseball League will host the All-Star Southeast Regional Tournament. The league is part of the Cal Ripken Division of the Babe Ruth League. This tournament is the largest for the 10-year-old age group in the Southeastern US.  Games will be played through July 21 in the Fairfax County part of Alexandria at Clermont Park (4100 Franconia Rd).

Eight teams from VA, NC, and FL will participate. The winner advances to the Cal Ripken World Series next month in Crownpoint, IN.

As tournament hosts (for the first time), the Pioneer League team (aka the !0YO All-Stars), having never played in the contest before, received an automatic bid. It should be noted, however, that they were state semi-finalists in the Cal Ripken State Tournament held over a week ago in Christiansburg.

Come out and show your support. Clermont Park has plenty of seating capacity with bleachers and space to set up blankets and chairs. All games are free to attend.

The 12YO team recently won VA Cal Ripken/State Tournament on July 7 in Herndon. It is the first championship for the age group in the league’s history. It is also the first state title for the league itself.

Affiliated with the Babe Ruth League since 1951, the Pioneer Youth Baseball League gives kids a chance to develop their game on regulation=size diamonds with standard baseball rules in effect.
