ALEXANDRIA, VA-The Alexandria Historical Society (AHS) promotes an interest in America’s history, specifically Alexandria and DMV history. The organization is currently offering Golden Grants to recognize their 50th anniversary. These grants are available to individuals/groups that further our understanding of this area’s history.

The award is a maximum of $2,000. The deadline to apply is Oct. 6.

According to an AHS webpage, the organization “will prioritize detailed, well-defined projects that can be shared with the public. Funding for work leading to an Alexandria Chronicle publication and/or lecture presentation recorded for the AHS YouTube site is encouraged but not required. Grants may support a project/program that already has existing funding sources.”

The grants will aid projects in any form of development. Projects can include but are not limited to: exhibitions, articles, theses, books, physical/digital media, and oral histories. Grants funds can cover research fees, image/video licensing, travel expenses, and more project-related costs.

Send applications to [email protected]. The application should include a statement of three to four pages outlining the following:

  • Your project’s purpose
  • A final project description
  • How you will use your grant
  • A project timetable
  • Contact info for two references
  • Resume or CV encouraged

Awardees will be notified by Oct. 15. Projects should be complete by next September.  A project overview will then be presented to the public at an AHS meeting in the fall of 2025.

For questions, write to Scott Verick at [email protected].
