ALEXANDRIA, VA-Thankgiving is only a week away. Just a few days before, on Nov. 26, roughly 50 volunteers will deliver turkeys and sides to 160 families selected by the nonprofit’s community partners.

Volunteers will be placed into teams, and once vehicles are loaded, each team will make three to four deliveries to families in need.

“Thank you to everyone who donated food and [will volunteer] to make home deliveries of turkeys so that 160 Alexandria families [can] celebrate Thanksgiving,” said Jenn Ayers, ALIVE! Executive Director. “We are continuing to see high levels of food insecurity throughout Alexandria, and I hope that this spirit of generosity will continue through the winter months, when the need is at its highest point of the year.”

Frozen turkeys have been donated by Poor Robert’s Mission. Halal turkeys were donated by Islamic Relief USA. ALIVE! has collected donations of stuffing, cans of cranberry sauce, and other shelf stable Thanksgiving items for meals.

ALIVE! is the largest organization in Alexandria working to prevent food insecurity. The nonprofit, founded in 1969, serves 20,000 people each month. In addition to providing food, it helps with housing and financial assistance.
