2025 GW Birthday Parade Moves to a Saturday! Registration Now Open

Parade scheduled for Feb. 15 from 2 to 4 p.m.

General Washington loves to celebrate his birthday!

ALEXANDRIA, VA– The city’s annual George Washington Birthday Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025. Traditionally the parade has happened on a Monday, George Washington’s Birthday, or now called President’s Day.  But because costs have almost doubled for police assistance, the parade organizers are changing it to the Saturday before. It also has a new time slot next year: 2 to 4 p.m.

In recognition of the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War, the parade’s theme is “George Washington: Alexandria’s Commander in Chief.”

Alexandria began the parade tradition in 1801 to honor Washington’s legacy. It is the oldest and largest George Washington Birthday Parade in the nation. More than 1,000 participants – including drum corps, color guards, and other groups – are expected to march in the upcoming event. View the parade route through Old Town HERE. The assembly area also has a map.

Parade registration is now open. To register a unit, click HERE. The early bird cost is $75 and available through Jan. 15.

To keep the tradition alive, the GW Birthday Parade Celebration Committee relies on donations and sponsorships each year. If you would like to contribute, click HERE.
