Need a Helping Hand with Your Holiday Lights this Year?
lluminating Your House is this Guy’s Job!
ALEXANDRIA, VA – Decking the halls—and bushes, porches, roofs, trees, and walkways—with boughs of holly and miles of lights can be easier than you might think. Creating a lighted wonderland for any winter holiday with the help of an outdoor landscaping decorator can make all the difference between becoming a scrooge or turning into one of the holiday-loving Who’s from Whoville.
Not to sound dismissive of normal concerns such as finding enough extension cords and lights, spraining one’s ankle or tumbling from ladders, or procrastinating to watch the games or play some golf or pickleball, but some people have seen the light of consulting an outdoor scenery professional. That’s where Brad Kuklinski, Holiday Lighting Director at Greenstreet Gardens steps up.
Kuklinski finds joy in sharing visions of outdoor holiday decorating. Arranging outdoor scenes with lights—blue, gold, green, red, silver, and white (plus more)—and trimmings actually delights him. Fortunately, as the sales manager for outdoor décor, Kuklinski is in his element during the stretch of holidays each year. Even with the high demand, he says he can usually get to customers’ homes and commercial establishments within two days.
“We’re on the holiday time clock!” he said, adding that the display time for each decorating job can be adjusted from start to finish, meaning that even the length of time to leave up displays is geared to the homeowner or businesses’ calendars and needs.
These days, it is easy to compare Kuklinski himself to a head elf assisting customers—both residential and commercial—with designs for their own winter wonderlands. Fortunately, he has the crew and materials to accomplish his version of holiday magic whether it be for Hannukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and the New Year.
“I consult with every customer to design the arrangement. We try to make the homeowner’s vision fit the budget,” he said.
As the outdoor lighting guru at Greenstreet Gardens for about four years, Kuklinski said he starts from scratch with each customer’s ideas and needs and then works with his crews to plan the process. Among his commercial establishments are high-end residential communities, Chick-fil-A franchises, and a number of commercial establishments that will be glowing within the next few weeks.
“We still focus on the homeowner, and every home is distinct,” said Kuklinski who communicates those desires to his crews to assist in service, planning, and delivery. “I advertise through the store. It’s totally a service business” suited to individual customers’ tastes and designs. “It’s a blank canvas that becomes beautiful,” he gushed, “and it’s quite satisfying and edifying.”
Trending now are more colorful designs and color fluctuations, he added. “We still use warm white lights but increasingly get requests for spots of color on lawns. Some folks like to leave (décor) up to color the walkways through the winter months. With the advent of LED light bulbs, there is a simple box to control the lights and timers.
Now we can put up the red, green, white, or blue colors and alternate the color combinations with other colors after the holidays.”
The possibilities are endless, Kuklinski exclaimed—as he picked up the next call coming into his Greenstreet Gardens holiday central workshop.
