ALEXANDRIA, VA-Are you a gardener? You may enjoy visiting a new business in the works at 1913 Mount Vernon Ave. Last month, the city received a Special Use Permit to open Del Ray Farmhouse Market & Garden. The application, submitted by D. Jason Portlance,  seeks the use of the 2,100-square-foot property for an outdoor garden center.

The business will offer plants, soil, and tools in a converted parking lot. A greenhouse will also be on the property. Portlance estimated that he would have 20 to 30 customers Monday through Friday and 50 to 100 on weekends. The proposed business hours are listed as 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The application requests six off-site parking spaces on Mount Vernon Ave. Two are specifically for loading and unloading. These spaces can be used by customers or for deliveries.

The last day for public comment is Jan. 30.
