ALEXANDRIA, VA-On Dec. 14, hundreds came to Alexandria National Cemetery to lay wreaths for Christmas. Now it is time to remove them, 2573 in all. Wreaths Across America is asking for help.

Removal is planned for Jan. 25 at 8 a.m. An email from the organization reads, “We hope you will again join us for this evolution to conclude the cycle for this year.

It suggests bringing a long-handled broomstick to grab and carry the wreaths easily. With the help of many people, organizers say the task can be accomplished quickly.

Through Jan. 17, all wreaths sponsored through a registered WAA Sponsorship Group will be matched for the next National WAA Day in December. Note that the offer is only for official sponsorship groups.

“[S]o if you are a 3-for-2 group, you will only get the paid wreaths matched, not the third free wreath,” the email reads. “For $5 back groups, you will not get the $5 back on the free matched wreath. And of course, regular no-plan group sponsorships will be matched as well!”

Alexandria National Cemetery is located at 1450 Wilkes St.
