NOVA Program Helps Unemployed Federal Workers Find New Jobs
NOVAnext offers one class for free, skills workshops, and $1 million in scholarships

ALEXANDRIA, VA-Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) has developed a new comprehensive program to help recently unemployed federal workers find new jobs. It is called NOVA New Employment, Exploration and Transition, or NOVAnext, and its resources are available to people laid off on and after Feb. 1. The program also offers $1 million in scholarships to participants.
“Many talented Northern Virginians face sudden, unexpected changes in their professional lives. As the community’s college, NOVA is focused on advancing opportunity, and the current moment has made our mission ever more important,” said the college’s president, Anne M. Kress. “We are honored to play a role in connecting residents across the region to their next steps, helping to build brighter futures.”
Selected applicants can enroll in one of 14 courses for free. They can also take advantage of workshops on writing a resume and searching for jobs. Classes prepare students for work in IT specialties, program management, and human resources. Find out more about the classes offered HERE.
Additional eligibility requirements include residing within NOVA’s area of service. Campus locations are listed HERE. Applicants must also meet a residency requirement and complete an online application, which will be subject to review.
NOV says the application will be released soon. In the meantime, the school encourages applicants to complete the interest form HERE. Once submitted, a representative will be in touch.
While enrolled in a NOVAnext course, participants can also sign up to take any other FastForward or NOVA course. More financial aid could be available.
