BREAKING: Big Wheel Bikes in Alexandria Finds New Home

ALEXANDRIA, VA-When the news hit two weeks ago that Big Wheel Bikes is closing its Prince Street location, there was an outpouring of sadness from the bicycling community. It has been at 2 Prince Street since 1971. The Zebra reported that the property’s owner submitted paperwork to the city’s Board of Architectural Review to completely renovate the building into a restaurant with a rooftop deck and outdoor seating.
Today (March 17) Big Wheel Bikes’ owner Eric Westerman told The Zebra that he was able to find a new location. The shop will relocate in mid-May to 110 South Union Street between King and Prince Streets in Old Town.
“I think it will be a better location because it’ll be more visible even though the old location was there for decades,” Westerman told The Zebra. “The new location will be more visible to new people who may not be so familiar with Old Town and its long-running businesses.”
Big Wheel Bikes will take the spot of the consignment shop that closed.
“We were looking for anything. It’s not a long-term solution,” Westerman shared. “It’s a short-term solution but hopefully it’ll do the job.”
just what we need, another boring restaurant.
