Special Lecture at the Lyceum Explores Remarkable Archaeological Discovery

Perfectly Preserved 250-Year old Cherries in George Washington's Basement

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Join a captivating evening as Mount Vernon archaeologists unveil an extraordinary discovery from beneath George Washington’s Mansion! “Unearthing History: Mount Vernon’s Cherry Discoveries” will take place on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Lyceum (201 S. Washington St.).

In 2024, archaeologists at Mount Vernon unearthed a remarkable collection of 250-year-old bottles and perfectly preserved cherries and berries, offering a rare glimpse into 18th-century culture and daily life. Discover how this incredible find deepens our understanding of Washington’s era and the history of his estate.

Enjoy a pre-lecture reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by an engaging presentation from the Mount Vernon archaeology team. Light refreshments will be served, and your $30 ticket includes one drink.
